well dammit, I give up! I've tried a gazillion times to enter the chat room, but no luck. I type in my handle, click "ENTER" and that's it. _________________ "If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it." |

chidog-
have you tried turning off your firewall? there are a few sites i visit where i have to turn it off to get in, but once in can turn it back on.
strange thing about the chat room for me is that it loads about 10 times faster at work on dialup than at home on dsl figure that one out. _________________ There are a terrible lot of lies going around the world, and the worst of it is half of them are true.

well chidog if it is on, there's probably an icon in your tray for it. if not check your installed programs list and see if you even have one, and if you don't, get one. _________________ There are a terrible lot of lies going around the world, and the worst of it is half of them are true.

Well I even went to my Norton Internet ecurity nd turned off my firewall... then tried to get into the room... no luck. I think this chatroom is going to be reserved for only those with a gazillion bytes of RAM or something...

I just tried it out of curiosity and I got in... I'm running the most critical anti-virus program that Norton produce.. and XP's firewall .. possibly Norton has a firewall built in also... but after waiting for ever for something to happen the screen finally appeared...
All the best

Well, I don't see an icon for it, nor is it in my programs list. Just how do I get one? (As I've said before, "I'm pretty stupid about 'puters".) _________________ "If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it." |

When I access the chat room, while it loads up, a little Java icon appears. The Java icon is a little steaming coffe cup. Java is a third-party piece of software that the chat room uses to do its thing. Maybe you don't have Java or the right version of it installed on your computer. Just a guess..... _________________ Mama's got a squeezebox--Daddy never sleeps at night |

Hi chidog,
I run the free "Kerio" firewall from www.kerio.com it's pretty good and the price is right. There is also an Australian website www.rayshaw.im.com.au that has alot of free helpful advice. click on firewalls in the left menu for more help on how to set up kerio.
Good luck, don't let the buggers probe your ports! _________________ The Australian wombat -
