wombat-
as with any series it can be confusing when you drop in to the middle, but once you've read 2 or 3 you get quite comfortable on the turtles back
i'm with teddy, the books dealing with the city watch are the best. my favorite so far is "the truth" about the invention of the fourth estate, and it's trailer park cousins (tabloids).
but they're all great. many of the characters remind me of the group here.. you know- trolls, witches, insane beggars, talking dogs
i should be starting on "hogfather" this afternoon.
oh and teddy,
is it just me or are you "were-curious" too _________________ There are a terrible lot of lies going around the world, and the worst of it is half of them are true.

Edgeguy..
I happened on the series quite by chance... my ladyfriend at the time was an avid reader and so I got the chance to sift through loads of books that I could read for free... (always favourite that) one time in amongst a load of horrors.. thrillers.. and assorted other titles was this scruffy "Men at Arms" .. which I took home and once started couldn't put down... laughing so much it HURT at times... that was it... I was totally addicted and bought every book that had been written at the time.. and I've bought every one since... even the map of Ankh-Morpork and the Unseen University Challenge.. AND Maurice and his Educated Rodents..
All the best
