Not a lot I can add, as I was going to say the same thing about the finding the old gunny and asking him....
First of all, ANY fixed-blade knife you decide to get, upon getting ready to go to the bus to take you to the MCRD, LEAVE THE KNIFE AT HOME!!!!
You won't have a chance to show it off at SD or PI, because EVERYTHING you bring with you will have to be turned in at Induction.
After basic, you might be able to take it with you to AIT (If you're MOS 0300), but don't count on it. You may only be able to add it to you're 782 when you're assigned to Division.
And remember, the Corps might have OTHER ideas of what to do with you judging by the apptitude tests....You could wind up a radio operator, supply, or mess hall orderly (IE, peeling potatos....LOTS of them! And the mess sgt probably would not one of his privates using a Randal or Gerber to do the job with!)
But ALWAYS remember, no matter WHAT job the Corps gives you, you will ALWAYS be a RIFLEMAN!
Everyone, from the lowliest PFC to the Comandant, and all the NCOs and aviators and clerks MAY have their assinged MOS, but if they are NEEDED as such, they can go into the line as RIFLEMEN.
And if you CANNOT pass basic marksmanship (You notice EVERY Marine has the shooting badge?), you will not be a Marine.
Just what I know of the real world, courtesy an Uncle who was USMC Korea/VN/PI DI, now dead 22 years. _________________ ....I'm sorry my karma hit your dogma.... |
